The Armed Forces Museum & Archives of the Carolinas is preparing to welcome a new addition to the building plan: a 20-foot-tall granite obelisk.
Museum officials are proposing building the stand-alone monument in front of the planned Mint Hill museum in honor of prisoners of war and service members missing in action for all American wars and conflicts. The monument, with a proposed aluminum pedestal and bronze plaque, could include an engraved ring at the base filled with ceremonial soil samples from all major American conflicts, dating to the founding of the U.S. Continental Army in honor of all prisoners of war and those who are missing in action.
